A mix of everything

I’ve been working on a new layout for Nekonette in these past few days. I’m determined to get this one done as soon as I can and in the mean time, I also want to polish up my web design skills. The layout is about halfway done, with majority of the designs already completed. Hopefully I’ll have it done before the end of next week.

It’s nearing the end of the fasting month and it’s less than a week to Eid-ul-Fitr. In my country, it is more commonly known as Hari Raya Aidilfitri[1. Hari Raya means Celebration Day.]. However, this year I’m not looking forward towards the festivity. I know I shouldn’t be saying this, because Aidilfitri marks the the end of Ramadan whereby all Muslims spent the whole month fasting from dawn to dusk, encouraging Muslims to stay away from worldly desires and to focus entirely on the Lord and thank him for His blessings, and other spiritual and communal activities, but I really don’t see why I should be ecstatic about it. As a Muslim, I should be welcoming this very momentous day but I’m afraid my enthusiasm towards Aidilfitri wanes for each successive year. I don’t quite understand it myself, but I assume it is due to the fact that I’ve been doing this every year so I guess it isn’t as fun as it used to be. The last time I truly enjoyed Aidilfitri was a little more than 7 years ago, when I was still young enough to receive ‘hóngbāo'[2. A monetary gift which is given during holidays].

I’m also starting to save up money. In case you haven’t heard (or read, for that matter), I would be visiting the UK and France in early December and obviously I would need a lot of money for the trip. The ticket itself costs BND$1,500+ (that’s around USD$1,250!) whereas the overall cost for the trip is around BND$4,000. This, no doubt, puts a strain on my budget so I have to be really careful with every dollar I spend now.
